 will assist the organization with the purchase of materials and supplies t
 o repair the wooden windows of the historic Jimenez dancehall. \n\nAccordi
 ng to the Texas Folklore Society\, 'from 1930-1970\, La Plataforma Jimenez
  was a space for Melvin's Mexican community to gather and to maintain its 
 link to the Villa de Jimenez in Mexico\,' where many of the early settlers
  of the colony were from. Festivals and dances were held here\, featuring 
 popular musical acts like Grammy award-winning Flaco Jimenez and Beto Vill
 a\, the father of Conjunto music. The Plataforma also served as a space fo
 r the Latin American Parent Teachers Association to meet and discuss the M
 elvin school board's de facto segregation policies\, and as overflow class
