Erath County Historical Commission

Funding for engineering consultation fees related to a study of the Bluff Dale Brigde The 1891 structure is the oldest surviving example of a cable-stayed bridge in Texas and one of the earliest examples in the United States.

Grant funding will underwrite costs associated with production of an educational HD video series to supplement Lone Star Lessons, a classroom curriculum focused on the role of the Texas Rangers. The lessons and DVD series will be disseminated to educators statewide.

Fort Martin Scott Friends

THF provided a grant to Fort Martin Scott Friends for the reconstruction of the blacksmith shop at Fort Martin Scott, a National Register site, that will house an exhibit space for living history demonstrations.

French Legation Museum

Monies to purchase computer equipment and software to publish brochures and other promotional materials that will help educate and promote the facility to the general public.

Friends of Caddo Mounds State Historic Site

Alto | 2016

A THF gift was awarded to support a film that will document the construction of a traditional Caddo “bee hive” grass home on the park grounds.

THF funds will be applied to complete and install a cenotaph honoring the accomplishments of José Antonio Navarro, which will be placed in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.

Funding for the development and printing of educational materials related to the Navarro: The Opera, a production targeted towards a school-age audience and based on Marj Gurasich’s book, Benito and the White Dove: A Story of José Navarro.

Friends of the Ballinger Indian Statue

Grant money applied to costs associated with casting and installing a replica of the Friend of the Indian Statue. The original “Friend” was one of many statues created to advertise Wirt-Franklin gas stations in the 1930s in Texas and Oklahoma.

Friends of the Center for Big Bend Studies – Sul Ross University

Grant assistance for continued excavation at the Genevieve Lykes Duncan site, where previous work at the location has confirmed evidence of Late Paleoindian. THF funding will support costs for personnel, travel, supplies, equipment, professional fees, and data analysis.

Money for a tin stamped ceiling inside of a historic railroad depot that will be used as a tourist center and rest stop.

Friends of the Fulton Mansion

Rockport | 2013

Funding for preservation and restoration of the Fulton Mansion, circa 1874, which was once the home of George and Harriet Fulton, who founded a ranching and meatpacking empire, and is now a State Historic Site.

Friends of the History Center for Aransas County

Funds awarded for the purchase of curation equipment and archival supplies for the organization’s new Collections and Curation Center. The materials will help protect the vast collection of historic materials used in the History Center’s quarterly exhibits.

THF funds assisted with the publication of Aransas County in Postcards, a book on that area’s history as reflected in vintage postcards.

Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail

The organization received a grant to stabilize the foundation of the city’s 1895 jail, which was used until 1982. This project will allow for future restoration of the interior and exterior of the historic building.

Friends of the Orange Depot

Grant assistance given for a project to restore the 1910 Victorian-era Southern Pacific railway station into a multi-purpose educational and community space.

The grant award for a project to place a Texas Civil War Monument in recognition of the Battle of Glorieta Pass, New Mexico in March 1862.

THF funds applied to expenses associated with the archeological investigation, excavation, and artifact conservation at the Bernardo Plantation in Waller County, considered the first antebellum-style plantation in the state.

Frontera Audubon Society

Weslaco | 2013

Grant funds for costs associated with cleaning and repairing of the exterior stucco on the 1927 Skaggs House. The Spanish Mediterranean-style home was donated to the organization in 1992 and was designated as a Texas Historical Landmark two years later.

Galveston Historical Foundation

Grant given for the printing and publication of How to Build a City, The Story of the Galveston City Corporation, using archival documents held by Stewart Title company.

The Foundation’s award applied to the restoration of the two winged-lion statues at the entrance to Bishop’s Palace, one of the city’s best known buildings. The structure was built in the late 1800s.

Funds provided will be used to digitize archival photographs and other historical images for placement on the group’s website.
