Duda Forum II: New Building in Old Cities (San Antonio)
Join us in San Antonio for the second annual Duda Forum on Historic Preservation and Sustainable Development on November 15th and 16th.
The Forum’s theme this year is “New Building in Old Cities” and will feature presentations by public officials, architects, developers, and advocates involved in historic preservation and sympathetic new construction in historic settings. Among the presenters will be Sara Bronin, Chair of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and David Trayte from the National Park Service, who will speak about preservation and design review from the Federal level. They will be joined by local officials and advocates as well as the sponsors and designers of projects in the San Antonio area that illustrate the variety of ways that new development may partner with architectural heritage to create more meaningful and sustainable places. The discussion will consider different strategies for adding new architecture to old while maintaining the historic character of a place. San Antonio, one of the most historic cities in the United States, can serve as a model for cities everywhere seeking to balance historic preservation and necessary growth.
The Forum will start off with an evening reception from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 15th at the office of Ford, Powell, & Carson followed by the sessions on Saturday November 16th at the Cultural Commons Gallery at Plaza de Armas from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Registration for the Forum is $20 and includes a box lunch on Saturday. Registration open until November 12.
Hosted by Texas Historical Foundation; the Michael Christopher Duda Center for Preservation, Resilience, and Sustainability at the University of Notre Dame; The Conservation Society of San Antonio; and the City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation.
