The Texas Historical Foundation is pleased to announce the Larry McMurtry Literary Center (LMLC) in Archer City as the recipient of its 2026 Annual Grant.

The grant will support the LMLC’s ongoing effort to acquire rare books from the private collection of renowned Texas author and book collector Larry McMurtry. The collection, valued at nearly $1 million, includes approximately 28,000 rare books from McMurtry’s personal library, many of which bear his bookplate and are considered irreplaceable.

The LMLC will use the grant to acquire approximately 50 of the collection’s most valuable books, with a focus on works about Texas and the American West, as well as books authored by McMurtry. These books will become part of the Larry McMurtry Personal Library at the LMLC, where they will be available for public viewing and scholarly research.

The Texas Historical Foundation is proud to support the LMLC’s efforts to preserve McMurtry’s literary legacy and his important place in Texas history for future generations.
